Canicula

Complesso dell'Ospedaletto, Venice

Fondazione In Between Art Film announces Canicula, a group exhibition opening on May 6, 2026, at the Complesso dell’Ospedaletto in Venice on the occasion of the 61st International Art Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia.

Curated by Alessandro Rabottini and Leonardo Bigazzi––the Fondazione’s artistic director and curator, respectively––Canicula is the third and final chapter of the “Trilogy of Uncertainties,” a series of exhibitions initiated by Fondazione In Between Art Film that has seen the Complesso dell’Ospedaletto transformed each time into a form of cinematic architecture.

450XL begins with a silent vigil in Belgrade in March 2025, where hundreds of thousands gathered in public remembrance. Then, without warning, the crowd abruptly dispersed — responding to something no recording device was able to capture.

In the aftermath, witnesses approached Earshot, Lawrence Abu Hamdan’s forensic audio agency, seeking to understand what had taken place. Drawing on 15 earwitness interviews, 19 videos, and 3,244 written testimonies, the investigation pointed to the LRAD 450XL, a directional acoustic weapon allegedly deployed against a civilian population for the first time on record.

The installation unfolds across fifteen screens, where text-based testimonies alternate with footage from the vigil. Here, silence is not an absence of evidence, but the very terrain upon which the work operates.
