We are very pleased to welcome you to the first solo exhibition of SETAREH SHABAZI in our gallery.
Setareh Shabazi was born in Teheran in 1978. In 1985 she moved with her parents to Germany. She studied media art at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Karlsruhe and worked with a DAAD – grant in Lebanon for one year. In 2004 she had an exhibition in the Kunstverein in Karlsruhe and in 2005 her works were shown in the Fondation Cartier in Paris.
Setareh Shabazi paints with the computer. She creates pictures that tell a story and sometimes appear as they were taken from a child´s painting book. The artist finds her subjects in family photo albums and in her surrounding, but also in the Internet and in print products of all kinds. Her impressions from near and far and from east and west make up a big fund of requisites, which she uses to assemble her visual worlds. Her pictures provoke connotations, interrogations and irritations, because every viewer sees another story in them – his own story. The works of Setareh Shabazi are glowing with harmony and aspiration. They reflect the engrained longing for safety of a human being, who, due to his biography, had to leave the familiar for something new and weird many times…
